UNICEF - Good practices and lessons learned from two interventions in Quality Inclusive Education

We worked with UNICEF Country Office Romania to analyze and document results achieved during the first two years of two interventions implemented by UNICEF and its partners for inclusive education in Bacau county.

The first intervention covered by our research covered the QIE (Quality Inclusive Education) model through the project “Together for the Future” – Facilitating the transition from lower to upper secondary education.

The research was mainly based on field documentation of the project in five of the 55 school communities in which the project was implemented. Implementation strategies, challenges, good practices and lessons learned, as well as some of the changes perceived as a result of the project, were documented through individual and group interviews with project coordinators, trainers, school principals, teachers, school counsellors, students, and parents.

The second part of our reporting covered the intervention carried out by the Step by Step Center in partnership with UNICEF within the project “Romania grows with you – Early education, an investment in the future”.

The study was mainly based on field research in three selected communities: Moinești, Dărmănești and Bacău, out of the 11 in which the project was implemented. The implementation, challenges, good practices and lessons learned, as well as some of the changes perceived as a result of the project were documented through individual and group interviews with area facilitators, local teams, school principals, teachers, nursery and kindergartens support staff, and to lesser extent parents and policymakers.
